Which course is right for you?
These courses are based on teachings of Zen master Shinzan Roshi in Japan, as transmitted to Daizan Roshi, my Zen master in England. Whilst remaining true to the practices that have been given to me, I do, of course, bring my own personal experience and style of teaching with the fundamental goal of giving you the tools, framework and encouragement to develop and nurture a life-long practice of meditation and mindfulness to transform and enrich your life, whichever of these courses you choose.
Zen Skills for Health & Wellbeing

Teaching secular (non-religious) meditation practices has a tradition in Zen stretching back to the 9th century. Meditation for the purposes of boosting health and wellbeing is called “bompu Zen”, and is firmly grounded in the teachings of the great Zen masters.

On this course we will be learning to develop practices that can allow you to move beyond suffering, such as stress, physical & emotional pain, depression and anxiety, to a state of peace and happiness.

How are these different to MBSR & MBCT courses?

(MBSR: Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction & MBCT: Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy)

Our courses are purely meditation and mindfulness based, with no admixtures of psychotherapy, and the orientation is teacher-student rather than therapist-client. Although our practices are being used in the NHS and other healthcare settings, we take a much wider view of wellbeing, believing that it’s more than simply alleviating psychological distress or stress reduction but also optimising each individual's life experience and unleashing their maximum potential.

Accreditation

Both of these Zenways courses are accredited by the International Mindfulness Teachers Association.
